At least 23 people were killed when a tour bus with 60 passengers plunged off a cliff in Peru.

The horrific crash happened in Piura, north-west Peru, with emergency crews attending to the incident.

According to local reports, the Aguila Dorada tour company was transporting passengers from Lima to Tumba.

The bus was traveling along the Panamericana Norte, a major highway that runs along the west coast of the country.

It was reported that the vehicle lost control and fell more than 160 feet into a ravine.

The injured passengers were taken to a local hospital in Talara.
