Coretta Scott King’s Boston sculpture honoring MLK is getting mixed reviews

A bronze sculpture honoring Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King that was unveiled in Boston this week has already been slammed by online critics.

The track, titled ‘The Embrace’, was created by conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas, TMZ reports. It depicts a famous embrace that the iconic civil rights leaders gave each other after King received the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize, which was commemorated in an iconic photo.

The track has received some praise from its crowded unveiling on Boston Common on Friday, with members of the King family in attendance.

Many others, however, especially those online, didn’t wait long to see the artwork as an ill-conceived look.

“Naaahhh must be trolling” one user tweeted with a series of crying emojis.

“This is awful,” added British rapper and podcaster Zuby.

Several users questioned the artist’s decision to only have the couple’s hands and not include the couple’s heads. Others noted that when viewed from different angles, the piece was considered pornographic, according to one user.
