A hero has been reborn.
The sixth installment of the much-loved “Scream” franchise is slated for release on March 10 — and a new trailer was released Thursday to get fans excited.
Hayden Panettiere, who played Kirby Reed in 2011’s “Scream 4,” is using the series to launch a career comeback after years of personal struggles.
With OG star Neve Campbell not reprising her lead role due to a pay dispute, Panettiere and Courteney Cox as longtime Ghostface victim Gale Weathers lead the New York set of “Scream 6” .
Thursday’s teaser opens with the masked killer terrorizing sophomore leads Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera in a bodega.

As usual, Ghostface leaves a trail of bodies in his wake as he stalks the women of Woodsboro.
“There’s a darkness inside me,” says Barrera’s character Sam Carpenter. “Follow me here. And it will keep coming for us.”
“Scream 5” stars Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding are also returning — and as scary as ever, according to the trailer.
Panettiere makes a surprise appearance in the clip, rocking a new platinum blonde and a leather jacket, as she tells Ortega’s Tara Carpenter, “We share a certain story. This is unlike any other Ghostface.”
The cast includes Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, Liana Liberato and Jack Champion.
The trailer also reveals that someone has created a shrine to Ghostface, complete with masks, black capes and knives.

And as with every ‘Scream’ movie so far, Cox’s Gale is always summoned, tortured and hunted by the homicidal maniac.
In one scene, the “Friends” alum proclaims to him, “You know you’re like the 10th guy to try it right? It never works for the dips — t in the mask.’
“But I’m something different…” claims Ghostface.
“You want me? Let’s get it over with,” Sam tells him. The trailer ends with Gooding and Savoy’s characters, as well as Sam and Tara, tracking down Ghostface on a No. 2 train

Following the release of the clip, fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment that Campbell will not be returning as “the ultimate ultimate girl” in “Scream 6.”
“I’m also sad. but kudos to Neve for standing up for herself and women. Women have been getting paid for a long time,” one user justified.

Other they voted: “Not to be that person, but…I’m going to be that person. I can’t see it without Neve Campbell. 🤷🏻♀️ If she just chose not to that’s one thing, but are you refusing to pay her what she’s worth? Shut up. keep it.”
“Sidney Prescott is the last girl. Not including her in Scream 6 because you refused to pay Neve Campbell her worth is absurd,” one fan was proclaimed.
