How to turn on YouTube’s dark mode

When you spend a lot of time looking at screens, the glare of a white background might be irritating. As a result, turning on dark mode can be advantageous, and it may even save battery life. The dark way is available on YouTube’s desktop site and the iPhone and Android mobile apps.

  • Go to the YouTube website and, if needed, sign in to your account.
  • When you click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen, select Appearance: Device theme from the display drop-down menu.
  • Select the Dark theme. You can also choose the Use device theme to make the app mirror your device’s system settings.

  • Open the YouTube app and, if necessary, login into your account.
  • In the upper-right corner of the screen, tap the profile icon.
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Settings
  • Select General on the next page.
  • From the General page, choose Appearance.

A check will appear next to the Dark theme choice when you tap it. You can also choose the Use device theme to make the app mirror your device’s system settings.

HOW TO ENABLE YOUTUBE DARK MODE ON ANDROID

The YouTube app should be dark by default if you enable dark mode in your Android system settings. However, via the YouTube settings, you can only enable dark mode for the YouTube app:

  • Open the YouTube app and login into your account if necessary.
  • In the upper-right corner of the screen, tap the profile symbol.
  • Select Settings at the bottom.
  • Choose General.
  • Choose Appearance.
  • Select the Dark theme. You can also choose the Use device theme to make the app mirror your device’s system settings.
