A GRANDFATHER discovered he’s been spelling his name wrong all his life – and it only took him 61 YEARS to realize it.
Allan Grainger’s family have been left in stitches after discovering his birth certificate.
To their surprise, they find his official name is ‘Alan’.
But Allan has been adding an extra ‘L’ throughout his life – and even has the supposed spelling etched into two tattoos on his body.
The factory worker from Derbyshire couldn’t believe it when he made the discovery.
And what’s more, even his parents were spelling his name wrong this whole time.
Incredibly, all his official documents over the years – including his marriage certificate and driver’s license – had the father-of-two’s name as Allan.
His misspelled name is tattooed on both his hand and the other on his arm – both with the addition of an ‘L’.
After posting his case of mistaken identity online – people were quick to share their own stories of being known by the wrong name.
One Instagram user said: “I always wrote my name as one word only to find out 4 years ago my name is hyphenated.”
While another said: “My nanny only found out her name was actually Jean and not Margaret when she needed her birth certificate to get married.”
And a third revealed how her dad, officially named ‘Stephanos’ on his birth certificate, always matched ‘Stephanos’.
