Joe Namath has a nice offer for Aaron Rodgers.
The Jets legend went on WFAN’s “Tiki & Tierney” Thursday and called for Rodgers to join the Gang Green — and wear his long-retired No. 12 jersey.
“I hope it may come true, but it is delusional: I know Mr. [Jets owner Woody] Johnson tries to get a quarterback. If there’s a way he can get Rodgers… I’m a big Rodgers fan, and I noticed he wears number 12 of course. Man, if we get him, will he still wear number 12? Because that number was retired years ago…”
Namath was told by the home team that it would be his decision to umpire.
“Well, it’s on the property. It is a different property. Different people. And I sure would love Rodgers if he’s there. Yes me I want to wear his number. We’ve established ourselves and have real respect for our numbers, and Aaron Rodgers, God almighty, yes! It would be great to have him in New York.”

Rodgers has not committed to whether he will return to the Packers, retire or seek a trade to another team. He is under contract with Green Bay through 2026, so they should work together on a mutually agreeable destination.
Rodgers turned 39 in December. If he were to go to the Jets, it would represent a parallel to 2008 when the Packers traded Brett Favre to New York and installed Rodgers as the starter. Jordan Love, who was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, has sat behind Rodgers for three seasons, just as Rodgers did with Favre.

As for current quarterback Zach Wilson, Namath said he didn’t know the 23-year-old personally, but said his view was that “we have to make a change.”
Regarding another No. 12, Tom Brady, Namath said he would “of course” respect Brady wearing that number for the Jets. Brandon Tierney said he doesn’t want Brady, who will be 46 next season, on the team. Namath turned to calling the idea of the seven-time Super Bowl champion “unrealistic.”
