Former Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo filed a petition Tuesday in the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in Duval County, Florida, seeking payment of his $3.5 million settlement in 2021 and damages for mental distress caused by Meyer, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Josh Lambo launched a lawsuit against the Jaguars, alleging that his coach emotionally mistreated him.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were still dealing with the fallout from Urban Meyer’s disastrous tenure last season.
Meyer was fired by group owner Shad Khan only hours after Lambo, who was delivered by the Jaguars last year, told the Times that Meyer booted him during training in August.
“After contemplating over several weeks and a thorough investigation of Urban’s residency with our group, I am profoundly disappointed to conclude that a fast change is critical for all,” Khan said in a December declaration on the group’s website. “I told Urban about the change tonight.” As I stated in October, regaining our confidence and esteem was critical. Regrettably, that did not work out.”
Meyer reportedly signed a multi-year contract for $10-12 million per year, which the Jaguars do not intend to pay because the coach was fired for a reason.
The lawsuit assures that because Lambo revealed the incident to the group’s legitimate counsel, his delivery violated Florida’s Private Sector Whistleblower’s Act. The Jaguars offered to speak with Lambo, but he claims he has “no recall of having the choice to speak with the actual group.”
Meyer drew Lambo closer before the last exhibition game against Dallas after he missed a field-objective attempt in Jacksonville’s first two preseason games. Lambo said Meyer kicked him in the leg and yelled, “Hello dip- –, make your fu- – ing kicks!”
After Lambo instructed Meyer not to strike him again in the future, Meyer’s answer was: “I’m the head ball mentor.” I’ll kick you whenever the f- – – I need.”
The argument assures that a company that strikes a worker at work before making efforts to hit them again due to obstruction is breaking state common and criminal law.
It further claims that the incident with Meyer affected Lambo’s ability to rest, practice, and perform at the level he was used to in his seven seasons in the NFL.
“Mr. Meyer’s animosity influenced Mr. Lambo, resulting in Mr. Lambo uniquely missing difficult and long kicks from ranges of 55 yards, 52 yards, and 58 yards,” the lawsuit stated, according to the power source.
Meyer ensured that the incident did not occur in the manner that Lambo described.
“Josh’s description of me and this incident is completely inaccurate, and there are witnesses to invalidate his record,” Meyer added. “(Senior supervisor) Trent (Baalke) and I met with him on many occasions to support his show, and this was seldom brought up.” I was entirely supportive of Josh during his time with the company and wished him nothing but the best.”
The assertion was made as the Jaguars begin a new season under new head coach Doug Pederson, who led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots in February 2018. The group selected Trevor Lawrence and Travon Walker in the previous two rounds with the first overall choice.
