While appearing on stage at a New York event, novelist Sir Salman Rushdie, who has previously faced death threats for his work The Satanic Verses, was stabbed in the neck. The footage of Salman Rushdie being stabbed has gone viral on the internet.
The British novelist of Indian descent was evacuated to the hospital in an emergency, but his present condition is unknown. He is now in the operation room, according to his spokesman.
Stabbed Salman Rushdie?
According to witnesses, Sir Salman, 75, was about to deliver a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution when a man took the stage and began striking him as he was being introduced. The assault occurred during Sir Salman’s introduction.
The author, who had only recently become a citizen of the United States, collapsed to the ground after being pummelling by the suspect. He was arrested after being restrained earlier.
“It occurred fast; at first, we thought he was mending his microphone, but then we saw the knife.” He began stabbing him in the neck at first… Mr. Rushdie jumped to his feet and began running. Members of the audience then stormed the stage and surrounded the aggressor, pinning him down until security came. It’s difficult to accept. We’re still reeling from the shock.”
The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, revealed that a member of the state police saved the author’s life as well as the moderator’s, who was also injured.
“He is alive and has been transferred to a secure location by helicopter,” Ms Hochul continued. But here is someone who has spent decades speaking truth to power, someone who has been fearless in the face of risk his whole adult life. Here is someone who has spent decades confronting power with the truth.”
A video of the incident’s aftermath that was posted on the internet showed a large crowd storming onto the platform while Sir Salman was being treated.
A snapshot of Sir Salman that was circulating on social media appeared to show him with his knees slightly elevated and someone pressing on his tummy.
What Happened to Salman Rushdie?
On stage, there was a table, two chairs, and a rug. The chairs were bright yellow. There were dozens of audience members present during the performance.
In another video posted to Twitter, a woman can be heard saying, “Hopefully they can rescue him because the first knife was pretty close to his artery.” The film was shot from a few rows back from the stage.
Jeremy Genovese, 68, of Beachwood, Ohio, arrived at the amphitheatre just as it was being evacuated and observed people “streaming out,” according to him.
He went on to say that everyone was astonished and that several of them were crying.
Henry Reese, who works for the City of Asylum organisation, which operates a residency programme for authors forced to live in exile due to persecution, was slated to meet with Sir Salman.
They were going to discuss America’s role as a shelter for free creative expression and a refuge for novelists and other artists who have been forced into exile.
The New York State Police have confirmed that they are “investigating an assault on author Salman Rushdie prior to a speaking engagement at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York.”

The police statement made no mention of the reason for the assault.
In a statement, the Chautauqua Institution reported that “following today’s assault on Salman Rushdie on the Chautauqua Amphitheater stage, we are actively cooperating with law enforcement and emergency agencies on a public response.” “We will provide additional information when it becomes available.”
His fourth novel, The Satanic Verses, has been banned in Iran since its publication in 1988 because it is considered blasphemous by many Muslims.
A fatwa, commonly known as an edict, demanding Sir Salman’s execution was issued by Iran’s leader at the time, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
