Hudson replied, “No, but other songs before that I would have changed because that song led me to get ‘Dreamgirls,’ baby because Barry Manilow had structured that song like it was ‘And I Am Telling You’ and a lot of people thought that was what I was singing.’
He continued: “By the time I got kicked out, I felt like I had a chance to show who I was as an artist, so I was okay with being kicked out.
“And then when I was, I was like, ‘You know what, you leave with your talent, you leave with your gift. This competition may be over, but your passion isn’t, your love and drive aren’t.”
